Summary by Book
Exodus
12“Also take for yourself quality spices—five hundred shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much sweet-smelling cinnamon (two hundred and fifty shekels), two hundred and fifty shekels of sweet-smelling cane,”
“five hundred shekels of cassia, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a hin of olive oil.”
“And you shall make from these a holy anointing oil, an ointment compounded according to the art of the perfumer. It shall be a holy anointing oil.”
“With it you shall anoint the tabernacle of meeting and the ark of the Testimony;”
“the table and all its utensils, the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense;”
“the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the laver and its base.”
“You shall consecrate them, that they may be most holy; whatever touches them must be holy.”
“And you shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister to Me as priests.”
“And you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘This shall be a holy anointing oil to Me throughout your generations.”
“It shall not be poured on man’s flesh; nor shall you make any other like it, according to its composition. It is holy, and it shall be holy to you.”
Leviticus
8‘When anyone offers a grain offering to the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour. And he shall pour oil on it, and put frankincense on it.
He shall bring it to Aaron’s sons, the priests, one of whom shall take from it his handful of fine flour and oil with all the frankincense. And the priest shall burn it as a memorial on the altar, an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to the Lord.
‘And if you bring as an offering a grain offering baked in the oven, it shall be unleavened cakes of fine flour mixed with oil, or unleavened wafers anointed with oil.
But if your offering is a grain offering baked in a pan, it shall be of fine flour, unleavened, mixed with oil.
‘If your offering is a grain offering baked in a covered pan, it shall be made of fine flour with oil.
And you shall put oil on it, and lay frankincense on it. It is a grain offering.
2 Kings
6So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”
Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few.”
“And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.”
So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out.
Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased.
Psalm
1Matthew
10“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
“And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’”
“And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’”
“But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’”
